Indoor Cricket League Week 5

After week 4 of the indoor league, the Fitmen were sitting in 4th place with a game in hand but 4 points behind the unbeaten league leaders King's Heath. It would take a sterling effort to knock them over and it was up to the mighty Fitmen to do so.

After being asked to bowl for the first time in the tournament, the Fitmen started well with Harris and Martin giving away just 20 runs in the first 2 overs. The scoring rate soon started to speed up with the first 3 batsman all being able to retire on 25. Kings Heath lost just 1 wicket in the 10 overs, coming from a simple run out for Harris. A score of 116 was reached after the allotted overs and a real game was on.

Butcher and Tucker opened the batting and it wasn't long before Tuckerrrr was run out. Apparently he is only allowed to be run out, so Butcher was happy to assist. In came Harris to up the slow scoring rate and didn't take long to start smacking some mean balls. Assisted by the strike-rotating Caesar, a couple of lusty blows from Raj and a 300 strike rate from Martin, Harris was back in, after 25-run retirement, with 31 runs required from the last 2 overs to halt Kings Heath's unbeaten run. The only thing to do in this situation is to smack itttttttt!!!!!!! Harris then hit a 6 and a 3 off the last 2 balls to take the Fitmen to 119 for 4.

An excellent win for the Fitmen puts them right back in contention for the title.

The second match of the evening saw 5th place Sultans take on 6th place Harborne. The Sultans hit an impressive 126 off their 10 overs with Harborne putting in a mighty fine effort but falling just 4 short, on 122 for 4. The standard of cricket is really now developing as everyone gets to grips with the surface and walls. It's shaping up to be an interesting finish to the league.

The League Summary can be found here with the Fitmen 2 points behind 1st and 2nd place with a game in hand. You can also access the Fitmen v King's Heath and Sultans v Harborne match summaries.
