The weather forecast predicted a warm and dry morning and early afternoon with light rain starting at 4pm gradually getting heavier with stair rods due about 7pm. They were 5 minutes late as the light rain didn't start until 4.05pm.
By the time an early tea was taken The FitAttack had pretty much ripped through The Moles. Whilst it's difficult to assess a score until both sides have batted, the conditions were pretty benign with the odd bit of bounce helping the medium pacers so every chance of a FitVictory.
In the 27 overs that were played the outstanding bowler was Sunny who manfully bounced uphill for 8 overs taking 3-21. A FitDebut for Josh Grant earned him a wicket with his first ball - a stunning catch by the FitKeeper. A couple of other catches were bagged well, and another debutant Joe Gahnai also hit the button with 2 wickets for 3 runs.
The match wasn't without incident however as two FitBowlers pulled hamstrings (Ash and Strickers) and consequently were moved to slip and gulley respectively. Seeing as they couldn't move a further two fielders joined them giving Sunny a startling 3 slips and two gulley field. You could see the chest swell with pride as he galloped up the hill reminiscent of Waqar in his prime........
Our own Rob Green felt hard done by..........a skier was down to him or Jack, but after his namesake's performance the night before against The Yanks 10 shouts of 'Leave it Greenie' seemed a little harsh.
However, the real highlight of the afternoon were the tandoori chicken wings accompanied by a piquant chilli dip - didn't get to try the home made Samosas, but presumably someone else did. A delicate plate of cream pastries blew the strict sporting diets, but created a lining for the evening's entertainment from Durban.
The 5 senior players missing for the game will have to keep their fingers crossed for a recall with all this new talent coming through. But with Strickers and Ash both estimating a month's intensive rehab, they could get their chance before the much anticipated President's XI fixture on world cup finals day!
