Wed 27 / 7 / 2011 The Village Home (WH) Won by 25 runs. Old Mo 154-3. Oppo 129-7.

Experience and yoof Knock Ric Bowel's All Stars for Six!

With the pre-match amble being more of a player scramble (that rhymed)! FitCaptain for the nite Howarth (deputising for Horatio in bed with gout) had some last minute team alterations to sort. With opening bowler Ash stuck on Erdington 6 Ways with a broken down car 15 minutes before the start (and promising an arrival of time between 7pm and never), FitSub Andy Tarr was called into action and duly turned up in time for the start!

On a warm barmy evening the toss was won by the oppo, who surprisingly put the Fit Men into bat in overcast conditions!

The game commenced with the yoof of DJ and Jonny opening up. Not used to a combination of Bowl and the Wast Hills pitch, they moved sedately to 12 off 5 overs. Then, with DJ gone and with Jonny perishing on 26 for 2 after 8 overs, the experienced Butcher and Howarth moved in and posted 123 in 11 overs. Butcher demonstrated a masterclass of batting, dispatching the Village attack to all parts of the ground and finishing with 82 off 51 balls! Howarth weighed in with an unbeaten 36 off 33 balls. Sharif maintained his 100% strike rate of recent weeks, adding 1 not out at the end and the FitMen closed on 156.

Now it was the Village's turn to bat (and in the gathering gloom). Opener Hamza (drafted in from Moseley Ashfield, and recognising more of the FitMen than of his own team) got the Village got off to a good start, putting on 37 off the first 5 overs. Sunny and Raj shared the new ball well, with Sunny making the initial breakthrough and Raj finishing his spell with a wicket maiden.

They were replaced by Andy Tarr and Sharif, who continued to bowl well taking the pace off the ball nicely. Hamza meanwhile accelerated and in partnership with their number four batsman put on 60 in 7 overs. Then Sharif combined with Chiz to turn the game and the Village's world upside down! First they dismissed Hamza (58) with a smart stumping, and then Sharif clean-bowled the replacement batsman as he finished his spell with a double-wicket maiden! With four overs to go and the run rate climbing, Nutt and Kenyon where introduced and duly produced! With a combination of Nutt Spin and Kenyon Cutters the "Death Duo" conceded 19 runs, crucially taking three wickets between them. Chiz (match stats: two stumpings and three catches) assisted again with all three dismissals at the death, including an incredible catch low down to his right off Harbajan Nutt. The Villages innings closed on 129 giving the FitMen a well deserved victory by 27 runs.
