SCORECARD

On Sunday 11 illustrious Fitmen ventured north for an afternoon of cricket with the prospect of thunderstorms and weather warnings in place. Fortunately for the valiant Fitmen, and less so for the oppo, the only warning needed was for Hurricane Jawad.

Uncle Mo, as deputy deputy standin captain for the day duly won the toss and decided to bat. Gavin, freshly fuelled from 4 double cheeseburgers en route, started to find some rhythm with a technical 16, before confusing the square leg umpire (he was on the other side) with the square leg fielder. Seriously ppl can umpires wear something other than white. Harry duly got an earlier start at the crease, while Jawad was slowly starting to find his rhythm against some varied bowling, which included one elder statesmen to have to leave the field ‘injured’. He was playing his last (ever?) game before undergoing knee replacement surgery on Tuesday. Suffice to say that pace was not evident in the attack.

Harry played a couple of nice shots but didn’t really get going. Falling for 6 in a somewhat confusing manner as the scorer was left to enquire as to whether he was lbw or caught behind. The carling was flowing nicely as Herr Bice strutted into the crease and promptly swatted a quick fire 49 off a similar amount of balls. Jawad was dropped on 42, but generally was bossing the middle as he strode on through the 50 mark to the delights of the cheering masses. Ok they were the oppo wags/milfs but they did have chants and signs to holdup, so relatively intimidating for a Sunday afternoon, esp after Mo had engaged one of them in conversation in the bar pre-festivities something about a darkened room.

Mo came in to support Jawad a obliged with a quick fire 45 or so, while Jawad reached a total of 111, dropped once more, before deciding that chipping the 4ft fielder for about the fifth time was quite enough for a days work, and duly retired. Sharif, Steve, Timmz all added valuable runs to the total, but Stu Mould provides a swashbuckling explosion to smash a quick 15 or so off about 5 balls. The bowling pace or variation hadn’t picked up much.

Net result a good score of 280 odd was achieved, which always looked like it would be competitive.

Generally the Fitmen fielded well took their chances, both catches and stumpings, the cat like Tom Houlgate managing one of each, prob as he only had 1 double cheeseburger enroute to the ground. Basically everyone who bowled got a wicket and good economy figures. Apart from, Gavlar who answering the captains call for some variety in the bowling, duly obliged and was hit for a boundary every ball, 5 4s and 1 6, for a total of 1 over 26 runs (think he has done worse before, Ade knows). Just think of it as a kind of super over. Anyway the oppo reached about 160 so Fitmen win by 120 odd.

Do have to say that the oppo were a top bunch, with fair decisions and a good spirit for playing the game. Friendly afterwards with a good bar, the fixture secretary should take note.

Disclaimer. This is been written on Thursday whilst watching Pakistan tonk New Zealand and England crash out the World Cup, lol, with no reference to any stats or records, so all of the above may or may not be true. Sharif ‘lost’ an over for instance and declined Gavin’s offer to give him his.
