SCORECARD
Turgid game in leafy Stratford ends in Fitmen Win
Fitmen 188-6 v 133 Barford - Fitmen won by 55 runs
Pre-match Pre-amble.
In Blackjack, 21 is considered to be the top hand. 21 no's however proved problematic when selecting this Fit XI. Good job Orange have an offer on free texts...
To the toss
Heads was the call for the away team and indeed heads rang true. The green pitch looked a little worn and slightly spongy, but did not resemble anything like it played! With the toss won it was off to bat for the newly appointed opener Hamza, alongside the well in form Tom.
Hamza received a couple of straight ones that rattled the pads, and it was the second of these that was to be his downfall, falling LBW for a duck (sorry Hamza but it was more plumb than a man who fixes pipes...).
In at 3 came Chaz, and the pair played fluently for a decent partnership before falling in quick succession (Chaz 37, Tom 32).
Another solid partnership ensued from Rob Green and Tuckerrr, mixing Super Turgidity with leg side hoicks to put on 72 (Rob 27, Tuckerrr 36).
The turgidness was such that after the 15 over partnership, the PSI reading on Ade's gauge read 190.
5 overs was all that was needed from the bludgeoner to amass a total of 188 (Ade 35 of 22). Glory be to Rob malloy who got off the mark with a nicely squirted single.
General mutterings at tea were that this should be enough...even their scorer reckoned we had enough in the bank.
Tea was pleasant, with usual offerings plus some rather large doughnuts for afters.
So to the fielding.
A man of the match performance rarely gets disputed in the FitMen, normally with one outstanding performance. This time however we struggled to split the decision as the bowling attack proved frugal in their offerings. Raj and Tony opened up, with Tony taking the spoils 8-2-9-4. Raj chipped in with two, including a smart catch at Gully from the Chairman.
Rumour has it that Tom gets 5 points per wicket for advising Tony to "Bowl at the stumps if they're not going to give LB".
Ade Martin chipped in with 3 for 10 off 6, and good spells from Chris Jones, Nutterrr, Chaz and the now newly appointed all rounder Hamza, kept the scoring shots to a minimum such that they were 38 at drinks. Wickets fell regularly, catches were dropped and held, and a fine bowling performance ensured the oppo were all out for 133, 55 runs shy. So 188 did prove enough, even with the slightly stronger version of the batting bitter.
Great all round performance and thanks to those laye yes's.
